DataDome: what it is, what it costs, and when to pick something else
DataDome is a Forrester Q2 2026 Leader in bot and agent trust management. What it does well, where Forrester marked it down, published pricing from around $3,830/month, and when a specialist alternative fits better.

DataDome is the vendor most buyers in this market have already quoted. It is a mature platform with a substantial threat team, and for organisations that want to hand bot defence to a vendor and move on, it is a strong choice. The assessment below draws on Forrester's Q2 2026 Wave, DataDome's published material, and Prosopo's own testing against comparable traffic.
What DataDome is
DataDome is a managed cyberfraud protection platform. It intercepts traffic in front of your origin, scores every request, and blocks bots, scrapers and abusive AI agents across web, mobile and APIs. The current product line is Bot Protect with Agent Trust.
Where it leads
Forrester rates DataDome highest among the three Leaders for innovation and adoption support. The specific things called out in the Wave:
- Priority Protect, which balances human and agent priorities on transactions rather than treating agent traffic as one class.
- Granular agent permissions, so a shopping agent acting for a real customer can be treated differently from a scraper.
- The strongest customer adoption programme in the evaluation, which in practice means onboarding that does not stall.
- A deep co-selling relationship with AWS, which matters if your procurement runs through AWS Marketplace.
The integration list is long. DataDome's documentation lists more than 35 named integrations including Next.js, Cloudflare Workers, Fastly Compute, Kong, Apigee, Auth0 and Clerk. It is a genuine strength of the platform.
Where Forrester identified gaps
Accessibility and management-console internationalisation. Both are narrow criticisms compared to what the other vendors got, and neither is likely to decide your evaluation unless you have an accessibility obligation, in which case see our page on accessible CAPTCHA and WCAG.
What it costs
DataDome publishes an Essentials tier from around $3,830 per month. That is unusual in this market and worth crediting. Everything above Essentials is quoted.
The number matters for a specific reason: it sets the reference price the whole category benchmarks against. If your traffic is below the volume Essentials assumes, most of the Leaders will not quote you at all, and that band is where a specialist is worth looking at.
Where data is processed
New York and Paris, with EU points of presence available. Of the Forrester-evaluated vendors, DataDome has the strongest EU footprint. Prosopo restricts processing to the EU on the Enterprise plan, and will set up a dedicated database for an Enterprise customer whose visitors' data must not share storage with another site's.
How a block gets explained
DataDome returns GenAI-generated summaries of what the model saw. That is better than a bare number, and Forrester did not mark DataDome down for explainability the way it did CHEQ and reCAPTCHA Enterprise. The distinction worth understanding is that a summary describes a model's inference. It is generated after the fact from signals, rather than being the literal reason the request was stopped.
Who authors the rules
DataDome's model is vendor-managed with customer configuration on top, and their SOC tunes detection on your behalf. It is the right model for teams who would rather not staff detection engineering. Teams with an engineer who wants to author and ship a rule directly during an incident will find it a constraint.
Which buyers DataDome suits
DataDome is the stronger fit for organisations that need completed SOC 2 and ISO 27001 attestations at the point of signature, want a fully managed 24/7 service, or need a Fortune 500 reference to clear procurement. Prosopo's ISO 27001 certification is in progress, with SOC 2 next on the roadmap. If your timeline allows for that, tell us the date you need it by.
How Prosopo compares
Prosopo wins the comparison on these points.
You want the block reason to be readable your team can read and grep, rather than a summary of a model score. Every Prosopo block returns the reason it was stopped, like Solver service detected, Inconsistent hardware readings for device or Automation driver present.
You want your own team writing Access Rules on IP CIDR, ASN, country, User-Agent, headers, JA4 and OS, applied the moment they are saved, without a vendor ticket in the loop.
You want the raw event stream. Every request, fingerprint, timing signal and rule firing, filterable by every dimension we score on, exportable to Datadog, Splunk, Elastic or Sentinel.
You want to read the client code before you deploy it. Our widget stack is open source and the detector library is the proprietary part.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is DataDome?
DataDome is a managed cyberfraud protection platform that detects and blocks bots, scrapers and abusive AI agents across websites, mobile apps and APIs. Forrester named it a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Bot And Agent Trust Management Software, Q2 2026, rating it highest among Leaders for innovation and adoption support. The company operates from New York and Paris.
How much does DataDome cost?
DataDome publishes an Essentials tier starting at around $3,830 per month. Higher tiers with full agent trust, API protection and account protection are quoted rather than listed. DataDome is one of very few vendors in this market that publishes any entry price at all.
What did Forrester criticise DataDome for?
Weaker accessibility and management-console internationalisation than the other Leaders. Forrester rated DataDome highest among the Leaders overall, including for innovation, adoption support and its co-selling relationship with AWS.
What is the best DataDome alternative?
It depends what is driving the switch. If you want the same managed model at a different price, HUMAN and Kasada are the closest peers. If you want your own team to author the rules and see a reason on every block rather than a vendor-tuned score, Prosopo is the specialist alternative. If bot protection is bundled in a CDN contract you already pay for, Cloudflare Bot Management or Akamai Bot Manager may be enough.
Does DataDome process data in the EU?
DataDome operates from New York and Paris and offers EU points of presence. Confirm the specific processing region and sub-processor list in the DPA rather than relying on a marketing page.
